The comparison

BTX vs Bitcoin

BTX is post quantum Bitcoin: the same hard money design, the same 21 million cap, the same coinbase issuance, re-engineered for the quantum era. This page lays out what is identical, what changed and why, honestly, both ways.

What is identical

The monetary design is Bitcoin's, on purpose. If you trust how Bitcoin issues and caps its money, you already understand BTX.

21,000,000 cap

The same hard cap, enforced by consensus. No premine, no team allocation, no inflation switch. Every BTX in existence was mined into being.

Coinbase-only issuance

New coins exist only as block rewards, exactly like Bitcoin. The reward halves on a fixed schedule until issuance stops forever.

UTXO accounting

The same transaction model Bitcoin has proven for 17 years, forked from Bitcoin Knots, so the plumbing is inherited, not reinvented.

The quantum question

The one difference everything else follows from.

Bitcoin's exposure

Bitcoin signs with ECDSA, which a sufficiently large quantum computer breaks with Shor's algorithm. Any address that has revealed its public key is harvestable today, to be broken whenever the hardware arrives. Nobody knows the timeline; the risk is the uncertainty itself.

BTX's answer

BTX signs with ML-DSA-44 and SLH-DSA, the NIST standardized post quantum schemes (FIPS 204 and 205), from the genesis block. There is no migration to schedule and no deadline to argue about: the quantum question is answered before it is asked.

The honest caveat

Post quantum signatures are bigger, so BTX transactions are larger than Bitcoin's, and BTX is a young network whose security budget is still growing into its design. Security has a price; BTX pays it up front.

What BTX does not claim

Respect where it is due: Bitcoin is the largest, longest-running, most attacked and most defended chain ever built. BTX does not pretend otherwise. It is 17 years younger, orders of magnitude smaller, and it carries the risks of every young network. The bet is narrower and honest: Bitcoin's monetary design deserves a form that already survives the quantum era. That is the whole pitch. Do your own research; nothing here is financial advice.

The questions people ask

Short, straight answers.

Is BTX a fork of Bitcoin?

Yes. BTX is a Bitcoin Knots fork with the same 21,000,000 coin cap, the same coinbase-only issuance and the same UTXO accounting. What changed is the security layer: NIST post quantum signatures (ML-DSA-44 and SLH-DSA) instead of ECDSA, and MatMul proof of work on ordinary GPUs instead of SHA-256 ASICs.

Is Bitcoin quantum safe?

Bitcoin's ECDSA signatures are breakable by a sufficiently large quantum computer running Shor's algorithm, and exposed public keys can be harvested today to be broken later. Nobody knows the timeline. BTX removes the question by using NIST post quantum signatures from genesis.

Does BTX replace Bitcoin?

No, and it does not try to. Bitcoin is the largest, most battle-tested chain in existence. BTX is a young chain making a different bet: that Bitcoin's monetary design deserves to exist in a form that already answers the quantum question. Hold whichever conviction fits, or both.

How is mining BTX different from mining Bitcoin?

Bitcoin mining requires single-purpose SHA-256 ASICs. BTX mines with MatMul proof of work, dense matrix multiplication on ordinary GPUs, so a gaming computer can mine it with the one-click easyBTX miner, and the same hardware stays useful outside mining.

Can I move value from Bitcoin into BTX?

A BTC to BTX bridge is being built. Until it ships, the community trades through the independent venues listed on the exchanges page. Nothing on btx.best is financial advice, and easyBTX never sells, brokers or holds coins.

Convinced enough to try it?

Three ways in, all self-custodial, all in a few minutes.
